STUDIO

A little glimpse into my world...

My studio is where I collect things that inspire me and fuel my creative process. From collecting antique hand colored prints from the early 1800's to real butterflies, beetles, eggs, nests, sea specimen, feathers and many other gifts provided by mother nature, that upon close inspection and study make my heart beat a little faster. My work is derived from my true appreciation and gleeful delight in the finest detail of these small and intricate specimen. It is a celebration of how fantastic these little things really are when you take the time to REALLY see the detail.

Posters for a GREEN NEW DEAL BOOK

for Creative Action Network

In a world full of challenges, one of the most important problems we find ourselves facing today is climate change. The changing climate and its effects on our planet threaten our health and our society, and only through working together can we begin to slow it. Our country has faced great challenges before, meeting them with industry and sweeping programs like those of the New Deal. With that legacy and our collective imagination, our action and our creativity, we can we accomplish the same progress today with a Green New Deal.

"The Green New Deal is the most exciting idea in American politics for decades -- and as these powerful posters make clear, it's grabbed the attention not just of policy wonks but of the artists who can translate these ideas into images that move us all!" ~ Bill McKibben, bestselling author of Deep Economy.

The Green New Deal poster book measures 11" x 14" and comes with fifty perforated Green New Deal posters designed by independent artists. The book is FSC-certified with paper made with responsibly sourced wood fiber, and printed with non-toxic, soy based ink. It's published by Workman Publishing in New York, NY.

I am lucky enough to have the following two images in the book. Click the Creative Action Network link above or the click on the two poster images below to purchase your copy.

13 Artists Discuss Their Art From Last Year's Women's March

Last year, over 50 intersectional artists worked with Amplifier,

an organization giving voices to female-identified and gender non-conforming artists.

By Whitney Bell

Oppression is felt in many ways, and it can feel inescapable. If history has taught us anything, it’s that in times of political turmoil the arts will inevitably flourish; bystanders turn into leaders and artists turn into activists. And Amplifier is here to help give those artists a platform. This inspiring organization is teaming up with the Women’s March for the second time to elevate the voices and visions of creatives across the country.

Last year Amplifier gathered inspiring works from over 50 intersectional artists to create posters and campaigns for the Women’s March on Washington, and this month they have launched Power To The Polls, an open-call for all female-identified and gender nonconforming US artists (no documentation needed). The winners will receive $200, and will be picked by the top activists in the country, including Women’s March organizers, Carmen Perez Sarah Sophie Flicker, and the notorious Little Miss Flint

We’ve rounded up 13 body positive, identity affirming artists and their works from last year’s powerful campaign, to inspire you to pick up a brush, or bust out your photoshop skills. The submission deadline is February 28th, and the voices of the youth are massively important, so let yours be heard!

Brooke Fischer's wonderful graphic paintings of butterflies, bugs and dragonflies are small enough to fit not only under the tree but also in a stocking. You'll find Fischer's paintings at Henry Road, designer Paula Smail's pint-sized store in Studio City.
